A
native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kevin
King graduated from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979, after attending
UNC on a full golf scholarship. He was
a member of the UNC Golf Team all four years,
captained the team, and was named to the ACC
All-Conference Team from 1977 to 1979.
King
played golf professionally in Florida from
1980 to 1983, at which time he relocated to
Hilton Head Island as Vice President and Branch
Manager for First Western Mortgage.
Based out of Fort Worth, Texas, First Western
specialized in resort lending and currently
maintains offices in such resort areas as
Vail and Aspen, Colorado.
After
joining Kelley-Scott Real Estate in 1987,
King became a partner with the firm, renamed
Prudential Hilton Head Properties, in 1991
and was top producer for the company from
1987 to 1998. He is a lifetime Member
of the Board of Realtors Distinguished Sales
Award (Platinum) having qualified every year
since 1988. The Prudential Real Estate
Chairman’s Circle, which represents
the top 1% of Prudential agents nationwide,
honored King with the distinction of membership
from 1996 -1998. King has posted sales
averaged over the past five years of $30,000,000.
King
joined Charter I Realty in January 1999 and,
with his affiliation, Charter I Realty now
includes 7 of the top 20 Island Realtors.
Charter I is also the #1 company in overall
sales producing over $590,924,676 in closed
real estate transactions in 2007. King
continues to specialize in private golf developments
and ocean-oriented properties.
Having
regained his amateur status in 1984, King
is a scratch golfer and continues to play
competitive amateur golf. He won the
South Carolina Mid-Amateur title in 1988 and
1998, captured the SC Amateur title in 1989
and was named SC Amateur Player of the Year
in 1988 and 1993. As an amateur, King
played in the 1989 and 1990 MCI Heritage Classics,
making the cut in 1989. King has competed
in one U.S. Open, 7 U.S. Amateur championships
and 6 U.S. Mid-Amateurs. In 2006, King
qualified for the 2007 Champions Tour and
played the second half of the 2007 season
finishing just out of the Top 100.
King
served as vice-president of the Hilton Head
Island Association of Realtors in 1998 and
is a member of Colleton River Plantation and
Secession Golf Club. He and his wife,
Lynn, have two daughters, Cameron and Victoria.
